|The safety of our community is of utmost importance to the City of Clifton and the Clifton Recreation Department. In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the impact it is having on our residents and the health care system, we are continuing to monitor this evolving public health situation and are modifying the services that the Clifton Recreation Department is providing to our community. We are following guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control, the State of New Jersey, the office of Governor Murphy and the Clifton Health Department. With that in mind, Fall activities may look a little different this year, but the Clifton Recreation Department is still committed to creating fun, interesting, and quality experiences for our residents. Please visit our website, www.cliftonrec.com/info/activities/default.aspx, for a list of our current programs, or our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/CliftonRec/, for program updates.
All City Parks, Tennis Courts, Basketball Courts and Playgrounds are open for active use. Athletic Field reservations are also being accepted. Groups are required to follow all guidelines issued by the State of New Jersey. Please remember that playgrounds are not sanitized daily, so we encourage that all users continue to use hand sanitizer and/or wash their hands both before and after use.
As a reminder to residents, this pandemic is NOT over. We cannot become complacent, especially as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase in other states, and now again in New Jersey. It is crucial that residents continue to practice these important precautions:
- Practice handwashing regularly for at least 20 seconds.
- Always wear a face covering in public settings.
- Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the garbage. If a tissue is not available, cough into your elbow or sleeve, not your hand.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Stay home, especially when you are sick, and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Keep a distance of at least 6 feet or more with other people.
- Avoid unnecessary physical contact, such as handshaking.
- Avoid attending crowded events and social gatherings. Consider replacing in-person gatherings with video chatting, voice messaging and phone calls.
|Who We Are
The Clifton Recreation Department is a branch of the City of Clifton designated to service the recreation, health and fitness needs of the community. Over the years we have increased and improved the park infrastructure, increased the quantity and quality of our programs, won several Awards. We provide areas of play at our 39 parks encompassing over 210 acres. The programs provided by the Department are available for preschool through senior citizens and encompass: educational, cultural, social, leadership, athletic, fitness, citizenship, and volunteer opportunities. Each year our department creates a motto for that represents our recreation goals for the whole year. The 2020 Motto is… "A 20/20 Vision for Clifton". Here is a note from the Recreation Supervisor Debbie Oliver.
The mission of the Clifton Recreation Department is to provide the community with a wide variety of youth, adult and family activities that offer our citizens the opportunity to use personal leisure time in a viable, productive and gratifying manner at various facilities that provide both active and passive atmospheres while maintaining historical and environmental awareness.
