This 6-week class is designed for tots ages 1 1/2 - 3 years old and their favorite playtime pal.  Participants will bring their adult each week to interact and play together engaging in various dance, movement & toddler-friendly sports while fostering a fun learning experience, encouraging cooperative play, working on motor skills and much more.  Great addition to the Playtime Pals - 1 class.  Instruction by: Robyn White. Limit is 10 pairs per class.

Marinera Nortena is a coastal dance of Peru.  It is derived from Andean, Andalusian Spanish and African roots.  It is a graceful and romantic couple's dance that uses handkerchiefs with the dancer's hands.  The dance is an elegant and stylized re-enactment of a courtship and it shows a blend of the different cultures of Peru.  The dance itself has gained a lot of recognition and is one of the most popular traditional dances of Peru.  This class is open to youth ages 5 & older through adults so sign up an individual or each member of your family. Parents of our younger participants are welcome to attend the final class in which students will put into practice the skills that they've learned at a dance recital. Instruction by: Rosa Carhuallanqui.  Limit is 12 per class.

Join SNAP-Ed for FREE, fun, hands-on workshops that teach you how to stretch your food dollars, plan easy and delicious meals, discover new ways to enjoy fruits and vegetables and get healthy so you can live your best life!  Food is served at each workshop.  Can't find a babysitter? You are more than welcome to bring your child(ren) with you, but please bring items to keep them occupied during your class time.  Pre-registration is required to attend.  Children attending with parent must be pre-registered as well.  If you need to register a child, please contact the Recreation Department at (973) 470-5956. This program is an essential service for our special needs population 13 years of age and older.  Activities include social gatherings, special events, crafts, trips and sports activities. The group meets Friday evenings from 6:45 – 9:00 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, 1232 Main Avenue.  Program is free to Clifton residents and grandfathered participants.  Non-residents pay an annual fee.

Clifton Junior Lacrosse will be hosting a clinic for grades K through 8 that will focus on developing stick handling, shooting and passing abilities of both new and experienced players.  The importance of teamwork and sportsmanship will be stressed throughout, while promoting a fun-filled experience for all. Great for anyone looking to try a new sport at a low cost.  Clifton Junior Lacrosse will also be on site accepting walk-in registrations for the upcoming spring season.  Come get involved in one of the fastest growing sports in the nation and see if you can become one of the next great mustang lacrosse legends. This American Red Cross Program teaches participants about the responsibilities and duties of babysitting.  The course includes information on safety, first aid, games, activities, supervision and characteristics of children.  Please bring a bagged lunch and a doll.  Recommended age for this program is 11-15 years old.  American Red Cross Certification received upon successful completion of the course. Instruction by: Robin Romanski, American Red Cross Instructor.  Limit is 10 per class.

This class is suitable for anyone who wants to learn how to use a real sewing machine and make fun usable projects from pillows, to bags, to accessories, to simple clothing...each week is a different project.  Sewing machines are provided for use during the class and all materials for projects are included in the cost of the program.  Instruction by: So You... Come and join our Minds in Motion crime team in this fun and interesting workshop!  A very important solution has been stolen from Minds in Motion laboratories.  Are you prepared to be a real detective?  Working in groups, you will conduct four important science experiments and narrow down ten suspects to solve the mystery at hand.  Learn about fingerprints and be amazed at how much science plays a part in solving a crime!  As crime scene investigators, you will perform chemical analyses and observations working with powders, liquids, and much, much more.  Come ready with your thinking caps on to help solve the crime of the century and save the Minds in Motion laboratory!  Instruction by: Minds in Motion.  Limit is 18 per class.

This 6-week class designed for high school boys and girls will focus on improving stick handling, shooting, and passing abilities of both new and experienced players.  All games and drills will incorporate speed and agility, as well as offensive and defensive strategies.  The importance of teamwork and sportsmanship will be stressed throughout, while promoting a fun filled opportunity for all.  Come get involved in one of the fastest growing sports in the nation and see if you can become one of the next great mustang lacrosse legends.  Instruction by: George Cowan, CHS Varsity Lacrosse Coach.  Limit is 25 per class.
 
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM    Vinyasa Yoga - Teen & Adult - Vinyasa Yoga (W)
Vinyasa Flow/Basics is a safe and empowering practice for everyone.  This class moves at a slower pace, so that you can learn fundamental vinyasa poses and how to link together your movements with your breaths.   This open-level class is set to music.  Modifications and variations will be offered to tailor the practice to your individual needs. Come practice on the mat to get out of your head and back into your body!  Instruction by: Dona Dubois. Limit is 12 per class.
 
8:00 PM - 10:00 PM    Adult Open Indoor Volleyball and 50 & Over Volleyball - Adult Open Volleyball
Adult Open Indoor Volleyball for ages 18 & over (no high school students permitted in program).  This is not a league, but a drop-in program.  Individuals interested in playing must first complete an individual registration and then pay $5.00 each time you attend.  You cannot register at the gym.  NEW REGISTRATIONS ARE NOT ACCEPTED ON MONDAYS OR THURSDAYS.  Each person is required to create their own individual account (except for married couples or if parent and child live in same household).  The program is conducted at Clifton High School, 333 Colfax Avenue, on select Monday and Thursday evenings from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.  See link for current calendar below.  Calendar will be updated every 3 months.  If schools are closed, due to inclement weather conditions, all evening programs are automatically cancelled.  You can call the weather hotline at 973 470-5680 after 4:00 p.m.

Dancers will learn new ballet skills and concepts while improving their balance, rhythm, and flexibility. Then, they will trade in their slippers for their tap shoes to explore steps, sounds, and rhythm, while learning tap technique (tap shoes recommended). Dancers will perform for family and friends on the last day of class. Instructor is an experienced professional dancer and former ballerina. Instruction by: Kathy Pucci, Pucci Performing Arts Center. Limit is 20 per class.

This class is for students who LOVE fashion and clothing. Each student will learn how to read and work with commercial sewing patterns. Students will also learn to sew on a real sewing machine. Projects include pajama bottoms, simple skirt and tote bag.  This is a perfect class for those with experience as well as those without. This free 2-hour workshop presents information about SSA benefits (example: Retirement, Disability, Medicare, Survivors, Child's Supplemental Security Income, etc.) and information about Electronic Services, also known as "eServices" which offer the public access to Social Security Administration's Internet, automated telephone, direct date exchange services, and to be able to address some of the public's questions. Zumba Kids classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography. We break down the steps, add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. These classes are perfect for our younger Zumba fans! Kids 7-12 years old get the chance to be active and jam out to their favorite music.  Zumba Kids will help develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives by making fitness fun. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, teamwork, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, cultural awareness. Active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity.  The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination.  Classes are broken down to include a 45-minute workout and 15-minute break during each session.  Instruction by: Katty Godoy, a Certified Zumba Gold instructor.  This class is run in partnership with St. Mary's General Hospital Senior Link.  Limit is 25 per class.

What's really in that food? Looks can be deceiving. In this 2-hour workshop, our little chefs will go undercover and make snack foods in disguise including candy sushi, a spaghetti and meatball cupcake, a pizza cookie and a non-yolk egg yolk pie!  Participants will eat the snacks they made during the workshop and water will be provided. All products are 100% peanut & tree nut free.  Instruction by: Chef It Up 2 Go.  Limit is 25 per class.

This ongoing program is for Clifton Students ages 13 – 17 (18 if still in high school) at Woodrow Wilson Middle School on select Friday Evenings from October 12th through May 17th from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. You can access the 2018-2019 schedule online at www.cliftonrec.com/info/news/details.aspx?NewsID=4535.  All participants must be Clifton Residents and enrolled in school.  Register online or at the Recreation Department.  In order to attend the program, you must register and present School ID each night you attend.  Any participant whose registration is done after Thursday, of a particular week, will not be able to attend until the following week.

You don't have to be big, strong or fast to use scientifically proven methods of self-defense to survive and win against your worst nightmare. It doesn't matter if you have any prior martial arts or self-defense experience. All you need are a few basic moves, understand a couple of primary principles and a have a handful of techniques that can easily be applied to these extremely dangerous and real life scenarios. This workshop starts with strategy and builds your self-defense plan that begins with awareness and avoidance.  Then takes you through non-lethal weapons like pepper spray and personal alarms, then moves you through striking, defense against multiple attackers, grabs and hold and finally what to do if you're on the ground facing much larger and multiple attackers. Every possible scenario is broken down into its most common denominator.  Instruction by: Cesar Gutierrez, The Self Defense Company. Limit is 12 per class.

The CPR Module, including AED (Automated External Defibrillation), teaches participants to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in adults. Topics include caring for conscious & unconscious choking victims; performing CPR; care for breathing & cardiac emergencies in adults; how to recognize emergency situations; check the scene and call for help; and avoid blood borne pathogen exposure. All participants are required to take a written test and perform the required skills. American Red Cross certification will be issued upon successful completion and is valid for 2 years. Marinera Nortena is a coastal dance of Peru.  It is derived from Andean, Andalusian Spanish and African roots.  It is a graceful and romantic couple's dance that uses handkerchiefs with the dancer's hands.  The dance is an elegant and stylized re-enactment of a courtship and it shows a blend of the different cultures of Peru.  The dance itself has gained a lot of recognition and is one of the most popular traditional dances of Peru.  This class is open to youth ages 5 & older through adults so sign up an individual or each member of your family. Parents of our younger participants are welcome to attend the final class in which students will put into practice the skills that they've learned at a dance recital. Gather your family, friends or co-workers and join the Clifton Recreation Department for a fun night of bowling at Garden Palace Lanes – 42 Lakeview Ave.  This event is co-sponsored by Garden Palace Lanes.  The event includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, laser lights, fun bowling activities and more.  Each lane will receive one pizza pie and one pitcher of soda.  Additional food can be purchased.  Do not bring your own food into the facility.  PRE-REGISTRATION is required and can be done online or at the Recreation Office.  Register early, only 16 lanes are available.  Only one person per group needs to register for the event.  The cost is $45 per lane (a maximum of 6 people per lane is recommended).   Make sure to indicate if you want bumpers for your lane when registering.  Please arrive at the bowling alley at 5:45 pm to get shoes, balls and lane assignment. This program is an essential service for our special needs population 13 years of age and older.  Activities include social gatherings, special events, crafts, trips and sports activities. The group meets Friday evenings from 6:45 – 9:00 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, 1232 Main Avenue.  Program is free to Clifton residents and grandfathered participants.  Non-residents pay an annual fee.
 
6:30 PM - 9:30 PM    Teen Open Basketball - Teen Open Basketball 2018-2019
This ongoing program is for Clifton Students ages 13 – 17 (18 if still in high school) at Woodrow Wilson Middle School on select Friday Evenings from October 12th through May 17th from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. You can access the 2018-2019 schedule online at www.cliftonrec.com/info/news/details.aspx?NewsID=4535.  All participants must be Clifton Residents and enrolled in school.  Register online or at the Recreation Department.  In order to attend the program, you must register and present School ID each night you attend.  Any participant whose registration is done after Thursday, of a particular week, will not be able to attend until the following week.
