Adult Open Indoor Volleyball for ages 18 & over (no high school students permitted in program).  This is not a league, but a drop-in program.  Individuals interested in playing must first complete an individual registration and then pay $5.00 each time you attend.  You cannot register at the gym.  NEW REGISTRATIONS ARE NOT ACCEPTED ON MONDAYS OR THURSDAYS.  Each person is required to create their own individual account (except for married couples or if parent and child live in same household).  The program is conducted at Clifton High School, 333 Colfax Avenue, on select Monday and Thursday evenings from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.  See link for current calendar below.  Calendar will be updated every 3 months.  If schools are closed, due to inclement weather conditions, all evening programs are automatically cancelled.  You can call the weather hotline at 973 470-5680 after 4:00 p.m.

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM    Spring Story Time In The Garden - Youth - Spring Story Time In The Garden (Sp1)
Young children discover the wonders of the farm alongside their caregiver in this nature-based 6-week preschool program.  Your child will spend time outside visiting the farm animals, gathering eggs from our friendly flock of hens and tending the garden.  Each class focuses on a different farm or nature topic using stories, arts and crafts and other hands-on activities and explorations.  A safe and positive environment is provided for children so that their enthusiasm for being outside and caring for their world will continue at home and throughout their lives.  Instruction by: City Green.  Limit is 15 per class.
 
5:30 PM - 7:30 PM    Jigsaw Puzzle Contest - Jigsaw Puzzle Contest
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. / Contest runs from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.How fast can you and 4 friends or family members (max of 5 per team) complete a 300 or 500 piece puzzle?  Teams will be divided into two categories: Teens/Adults (will complete a 500 piece puzzle- team consists of 3 or more individuals ages 13 & up)Families (will complete a 300 piece puzzle- team consists of 2 adults/teens and up to 3 children 12 & under). You do not need to specify a category when registering.  Teams will be divided into categories at the event.  Awards and prizes will be given to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place teams for each category.  If no one completes the puzzle in the time allotted, the teams with the most complete puzzle will win 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for each category.  Soda and juice will be provided, but please bring your own snacks.  PRE-REGISTRATION is required and can be done online or at the Recreation Office.  There will be no registration at the door and space is limited, so pre-register your team early (team captain only).  The cost is $5.00 per team.  Online registration ends on 4/19/2019.

The Clifton Community Band is open to all Clifton residents who are interested in playing their instrument (woodwind, percussion, or brass).  The band meets on most Tuesday evenings (late September through Mid-July) from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. in the band room at Clifton High School.  The band performs at various events throughout the year.  For further information contact: Alan Paris at (973) 777-1781 or cliftonband@optonline.net.

This free 2-hour workshop presents information about SSA benefits (example: Retirement, Disability, Medicare, Survivors, Child's Supplemental Security Income, etc.) and information about Electronic Services, also known as "eServices" which offer the public access to Social Security Administration's Internet, automated telephone, direct date exchange services, and to be able to address some of the public's questions. This program designed for your little giants will introduce sports such as basketball, soccer and tee-ball to participants.  Each week very basic skills will be taught to the children so they can begin to enjoy the sport.  Cooperation, sharing, good sportsmanship and group interaction will be the focus of each week as they play.  Instruction by: Katterine Godoy.  Limit is 10 per class.

Zumba Kids classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography. We break down the steps, add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. These classes are perfect for our younger Zumba fans! Kids 7-12 years old get the chance to be active and jam out to their favorite music.  Zumba Kids will help develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives by making fitness fun. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, teamwork, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, cultural awareness. Marinera Nortena is a coastal dance of Peru.  It is derived from Andean, Andalusian Spanish and African roots.  It is a graceful and romantic couple's dance that uses handkerchiefs with the dancer's hands.  The dance is an elegant and stylized re-enactment of a courtship and it shows a blend of the different cultures of Peru.  The dance itself has gained a lot of recognition and is one of the most popular traditional dances of Peru.  This class is open to youth ages 5 & older through adults so sign up an individual or each member of your family. Parents of our younger participants are welcome to attend the final class in which students will put into practice the skills that they've learned at a dance recital. Instruction by: Rosa Carhuallanqui.  Limit is 12 per class.

This ongoing program is for Clifton Students ages 13 – 17 (18 if still in high school) at Woodrow Wilson Middle School on select Friday Evenings from October 12th through May 17th from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. You can access the 2018-2019 schedule online at www.cliftonrec.com/info/news/details.aspx?NewsID=4535.  All participants must be Clifton Residents and enrolled in school.  Register online or at the Recreation Department.  In order to attend the program, you must register and present School ID each night you attend.  Any participant whose registration is done after Thursday, of a particular week, will not be able to attend until the following week.

This program is an essential service for our special needs population 13 years of age and older.  Activities include social gatherings, special events, crafts, trips and sports activities. The group meets Friday evenings from 6:45 – 9:00 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, 1232 Main Avenue.  Program is free to Clifton residents and grandfathered participants.  Non-residents pay an annual fee.

This American Red Cross Program teaches participants about the responsibilities and duties of babysitting.  The course includes information on safety, first aid, games, activities, supervision and characteristics of children.  Please bring a bagged lunch and a doll.  Recommended age for this program is 11-15 years old.  American Red Cross Certification received upon successful completion of the course. Yoga is a great way to keep your body and mind in perfect harmony. The focus of the class is about gaining flexibility, balance and strength at any age. This class is organized around a Yoga practice which stresses: a slow and gentle pace, simplicity and attention, and letting go on any exceptions or presumptions of what yoga is in relationship to age. Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. This class will cover standing, seated and prone postures, and will not include complicated maneuvers or complex movements. Chair yoga can be enjoyed by adults of all skill levels, as it deepens flexibility, strengthens personal body awareness, and promotes physical and mental fitness. Dancers will learn new ballet skills and concepts while improving their balance, rhythm, and flexibility. Then, they will trade in their slippers for their tap shoes to explore steps, sounds, and rhythm, while learning tap technique (tap shoes recommended). Children derive enormous benefits from yoga; it enhances flexibility, strength, coordination, concentration, calmness, self-esteem, and so much more.  Yoga is a non-competitive form of exercise, teaching self-control, enhancing focus and awareness.  A yoga mat is needed for practice.  Parents must sign an additional waiver at the first class.  Instruction by: Sharon Prawetz, Blooming Minds Yoga.  Limit is 12 per class.

This class is for students who LOVE fashion and clothing. Each student will learn how to read and work with commercial sewing patterns. Students will also learn to sew on a real sewing machine. Projects include pajama bottoms, simple skirt and tote bag.  This is a perfect class for those with experience as well as those without. Join us for this 2-hour workshop about Reiki, a healing technique and spiritual practice that was developed in Japan early last century. Reiki is a dynamic tool for tapping into a larger system of universal energy that already flows inside and outside our bodies and provides physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual benefits. The CPR Module, including AED (Automated External Defibrillation), teaches participants to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies in adults. Topics include caring for conscious & unconscious choking victims; performing CPR; care for breathing & cardiac emergencies in adults; how to recognize emergency situations; check the scene and call for help; and avoid blood borne pathogen exposure. All participants are required to take a written test and perform the required skills. American Red Cross certification will be issued upon successful completion and is valid for 2 years. Dancers will continue to build on the fundamentals learned in Ballet/Tap Combo I in this class and learn new ballet skills and concepts while improving their balance, rhythm, and flexibility. Then, they will trade in their slippers for their tap shoes to explore steps, sounds, and rhythm, while continuing to build on previously learned tap techniques (tap shoes recommended). Dancers will perform for family and friends on the last day of class. Participants must have completed Ballet/Tap Combo I to be eligible for this class. You don't have to be big, strong or fast to use scientifically proven methods of self-defense to survive and win against your worst nightmare. It doesn't matter if you have any prior martial arts or self-defense experience. All you need are a few basic moves, understand a couple of primary principles and a have a handful of techniques that can easily be applied to these extremely dangerous and real life scenarios. This workshop starts with strategy and builds your self-defense plan that begins with awareness and avoidance.  Then takes you through non-lethal weapons like pepper spray and personal alarms, then moves you through striking, defense against multiple attackers, grabs and hold and finally what to do if you're on the ground facing much larger and multiple attackers. Open to Clifton students grades K – 12, plus an Adult category (Clifton Residents Only).  The contest will be held at Main Memorial Park – 1395 Main Avenue.   The event is free of charge.  Pre-registration is recommended and can be done online or at the Recreation Office.  Fish must be caught by hook (no nets) and the hook must be in the fish’s mouth when presented for judging.  Final fish must be caught by 9:45 a.m. Awards will be issued for the Largest Fish and Most Fish Caught for boys and girls in various grade categories and top male and female winner for adults.

Open to Clifton students grades K – 12, plus an Adult category (Clifton Residents Only).  The contest will be held at Main Memorial Park – 1395 Main Avenue.   The event is free of charge.  Pre-registration is recommended and can be done online or at the Recreation Office.  Fish must be caught by hook (no nets) and the hook must be in the fish’s mouth when presented for judging.  Final fish must be caught by 9:45 a.m. Awards will be issued for the Largest Fish and Most Fish Caught for boys and girls in various grade categories and top male and female winner for adults.

This Annual Intergenerational Band Concert co-sponsored by the Clifton Education Foundation, the Music Department of Clifton Public Schools and the Clifton Alumni/Community Band will be held at Clifton High School. Tickets can be purchased through band members, alumni organization, Education Foundation at the door day of concert and at the high school main office beginning mid-May. All proceeds go to the Clifton Education Foundation and the Alumni Community Band.  The cost is $7.00 per ticket.  Children 12 and under are Free!

Yoga is a great way to keep your body and mind in perfect harmony. The focus of the class is about gaining flexibility, balance and strength at any age. This class is organized around a Yoga practice which stresses: a slow and gentle pace, simplicity and attention, and letting go on any exceptions or presumptions of what yoga is in relationship to age. Adult Open Indoor Volleyball for ages 18 & over (no high school students permitted in program).  This is not a league, but a drop-in program.  Individuals interested in playing must first complete an individual registration and then pay $5.00 each time you attend.  You cannot register at the gym.  NEW REGISTRATIONS ARE NOT ACCEPTED ON MONDAYS OR THURSDAYS.  Each person is required to create their own individual account (except for married couples or if parent and child live in same household).  The program is conducted at Clifton High School, 333 Colfax Avenue, on select Monday and Thursday evenings from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.  See link for current calendar below.  Calendar will be updated every 3 months.  If schools are closed, due to inclement weather conditions, all evening programs are automatically cancelled.  You can call the weather hotline at 973 470-5680 after 4:00 p.m.

Young children discover the wonders of the farm alongside their caregiver in this nature-based 6-week preschool program.  Your child will spend time outside visiting the farm animals, gathering eggs from our friendly flock of hens and tending the garden.  Each class focuses on a different farm or nature topic using stories, arts and crafts and other hands-on activities and explorations.  A safe and positive environment is provided for children so that their enthusiasm for being outside and caring for their world will continue at home and throughout their lives.  Instruction by: City Green.  Limit is 15 per class.

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support.
